One in a Million Award recipient: Order of Malta Clinic Northern California
Where they are multiplying good: Oakland, California
How they are multiplying good: They are One in a Million. The Order of Malta Clinic of Northern California is a free clinic that serves patients without insurance and does not require paperwork or proof of citizenship. Many of the patients seen are undocumented families wary of seeking medical attention at doctor's offices or hospitals. More than half of the patients do not regularly visit a doctor, and most new patients have received little medical attention in recent years. For many residents of the Greater Bay Area, this Clinic is the only source of medical care they receive. Since 2008, the Order of Malta Clinic has seen over 3,500 patients and has over 60,000 volunteer hours served. In their 11 years of operation, they've increased services to 11 specialty areas and have introduced a mobile clinic and telemedicine to help even more of the underserved community. The Clinic improves the quality of life for thousands of individuals who can not afford healthcare even with full-time employment. They operate strictly from donations.
