On September 10th, 2019 the SF Giants were pleased to honor recent Burlingame High School's Students In Action member, Courtney Rosales. Courtney is an extraordinary leader not only within her school but within the global community as well. Courtney and a friend organized the Burlingame branch of Ray United FC/Uganda United Club dedicated to bettering the lives and education of children in Uganda who are personally affected by HIV and AIDS.
With her leadership as co-president for two years, the branch focused on raising funds for their primary school partner, Johnson Nkosi Primary School and, also fostered deeper connections by establishing pen pals with students. Closer to home, Courtney volunteers in multiple organizations in the community including Samaritan House, Village Park Preschool, and TALK Peninsula (Teaching and Assessing Language for Kids).
In her early years, Courtney struggled and couldn't say the letter "R" and spent three years in speech class. Motivated by her experience, she currently supports preschool students through activities, learning, and play. Courtney helps create enrichment tools for students, organizes teaching materials, and assists the speech pathologists. This year, Burlingame High School’s Student In Action team initiated school-wide initiatives for the first time. Courtney actively participated in the newly established Service Club Advisory Council, promoted the clothing and book drives, donated personally, and helped with the counting and collection of all donations. Courtney is an exceptional student and will be attending Stanford University in the fall.
