Convent & Stuart Hall’s SIA team had some significant impact this year: 48 team members engaged 85% of its school in volunteering, were responsible for generating a remarkable 8,082 hours of service and fundraised $28,000.
Among several projects, One Less Hungry (OLH) was created by a former member in 2014 who wanted to aid San Francisco’s homeless population. Every month volunteers assembled an average of 200 lunch bags, experienced first hand the plight of homelessness within their city through interactions with the homeless, and positively engaged with them. OLH has expanded from 8 students to over 50 students and parents. Through an innovative partnership with Replate, the 600 meals served in the first year have grown to 1800 meals this school year.
“SIA is a great community that has allowed us to engage in service that is genuine and real. Working side by side with our fellow students has helped us form meaningful relationships and allows us to feel like we are making an impact on something bigger and greater than ourselves.”
